More events with more to come!

Hello, it’s me again. Whew, what a whirlwind. We were just barely back from Tribeca, when we had to turn around and drive out to San Jose for a community screening at the San Jose State University in conjunction with Learning Bytes and Girls for a Change, two awesome organizations in the South Bay that support girls, and then Dawn had to fly out to Portland for our screening at the Portland Women’s Film Festival. And then did you hear the really good news? We were invited to screen at the SILVERDOCS AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival in the DC Area in just a few short weeks. I am really thrilled to be screening at a documentary festival specifically as it has a whole different feel than a festival that has to cover all it’s bases. And you know, there’s not really celebrities at doc fests like there are at these other festivals. I guess, Michael Moore and Al Gore are celebs, but that’s the best that they can do.
Anyhoo, the San Jose screening was a lot of fun. Isha, Rosie and Myariah all made it. We screened the film and once again, Myariah worked her magic on the crowd immediately after the screening. We were really glad her and her mom could make it as she had prom the very next night! I was also really happy that Isha came. We missed her! And she said she was really happy to hang out with us again.
One cool part of the event is that after Myariah sang and we all had our Q & A, the girls from Girls For A Change broke off into their own group (along with Isha, Rosie and Myariah, and separate from the adults in attendance) and chatted about the film. Isha told me afterward that the girls talked about which girls they most related to and why. She was shocked to hear that some of them said that they related to her! That really impressed her.
Our pal and fellow filmmaker Tricia Creason-Valencia organized the whole event including two IPod raffle giveaways (one of which Isha won!) So a big THANK YOU to her for bringing us out and paying each of us a speaker’s fee! It feels good to be loved!
